Scarification

Scarification is done for aesthetics or to produce a better bond surface for repair material, coating application, or carbon fiber preparation.

Scarification:
The ultra-high pressure hand lance can be used to give concrete an "exposed aggregate" look. This was the look the building owners were looking for at the condominium pictured here in Seapointe Village, New Jersey. The surface of this plaza was prepared using high pressure hand lances. This type of removal is sometimes referred to as scarification or texturing.

Light Removal:
Our high pressure pumps can be used to remove harder materials such as concrete and grout. In this picture, grout is being removed by hand lance for safety railing reinstallation. The grout is removed while the concrete is left intact.

Deeper Removal:
Concrete can be removed using the same equipment as is used in scarification and grout removal. Increased contact time, nozzle angle, and amount of nozzles are all that need to change to get the desired removal depth. Pictured is detail work done by hand lance on the Commodore Barry Bridge between New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Deep removal of concrete is done with a robot or a hand lance.
